Who is the weight loss injection suitable for?
It is usually suitable for obesity from a BMI of 30, or for overweight from a BMI of 27 with a weight-related risk. Tirzepatide (Mounjaro): the active substance behind it
Tirzepatide is the active substance in Mounjaro and acts on two hormone pathways at once, GLP-1 and GIP rather than GLP-1 alone. In the SURMOUNT-1 approval study it produced the largest mean weight loss in the study population over 72 weeks, around 20 per cent at high doses. Whether tirzepatide suits you is decided by the doctor in your appointment.

How much does the medication cost? Depending on the medication and the dose you are typically looking at around €200 to €400 per month. Wegovy is usually around €250 to €350, Mounjaro around €300 to €400. The pharmacy tells you the exact price, depending on the dose level and pack size.
German statutory health insurance does not pay: the Federal Joint Committee (G-BA) classifies weight loss injections used purely for weight reduction as lifestyle medicines and excludes them from reimbursement. Private insurers assess this according to the policy and the individual case.

Every follow-up appointment costs EUR 59, and a repeat prescription only, without a consultation, also costs EUR 59. Well tolerated when the start is right
